Still a solid attempt at a difficult, if not impossible task. I understand how and why this needed to be done, but it was a difficult text for lower high school ESL learners obviously. Introducing world history in a truly global framework, Lockard's SOCIETIES, NETWORKS, AND TRANSITIONS, VOLUME l: TO 1500: A GLOBAL HISTORY, Fourth Edition, explores the regions of the world with a strong focus on culture, social change, economic patterns, science, religion and gender issues. Our (my students and I) favorite chapter had the Russian Revolution, both World Wars, the Great Depression, and introductory content to the Cold War all in the same chapter. For the most part he was successful, but additional texts and insight is obviously needed.

As I read this book and as I am writing the review I have to/had to keep in mind the author attempted to write the history of the world in less than 1000 pages. Used this as a textbook for my 10th grade AP World History class. Negative- Stresses American history and American point of view, Can have American bias, handful of inaccuracies and contradictions discovered Author and veteran teacher Craig Lockard engages students with a unique approach to cultural artifacts such as music and art. Good- Gives big picture, has informative people profiles, easy division of time periods and locations, informative section and chapter summaries, gives additional source options

Used this as an AP World History Textbook for an International School in Brazil for 2nd year in a row. 2015-16 School Year Review (by Students).
